Another slow week across the board for all genres. Here at Weekly Hip Hop Albums, everybody gets in the headlines and gets their picture made! Later this week I should be coming out with a Special Report including recent albums discovered after their release, a significant mixtape or two and a batch of digital EP's, a format that seems to be emerging as a digital favorite.

Still getting up to speed on whatever my new approach is going to be. I'll possibly be including more digital EP's and definitely more digital only releases. Things will keep improving but I'm in the middle of revamping and expanding Hip Hop Press so the changes here will be a bit more gradual than I'd like. On the bright side, the pr I get for Hip Hop Press and for ProHipHop is going to be a big source moving forward.

New Rap Albums Due Jan. 9: Canibus, D.A.P., The Deep Thinkers, DJ Kayslay

Canibus - Melatonin Magik

Things look to heat up in March but I'm still coming up with short lists:

a) At least there's something interesting each week!

b) Are people releasing less albums these days?

c) I'm betting what's missing are some digital only releases and that's one place I need to step things up.

Still working on how best to improve this report but getting it out on Sunday was the first step!

New Rap Albums Due Feb. 2: Big Noyd, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Eazy-E, Lil Wayne, Statik Selektah

Lil Wayne - Rebirth album cover art

Lil Wayne - Rebirth (CD/DVD)

There are so few releases that this didn't take nearly as long to put together as I expected. Notice that people will keep talking about shrinking cd sales but they'll leave out the fact that folks are dropping fewer studio albums and more mixtapes. Don't know what's happening in other genres but if you put out less, you'll sell less.

Statik Selektah - 100 Proof: The Hangover

I've never claimed that this report covered everything, but I've got to find a new approach to deal with the fact that the landscape for announcing new albums has radically changed over the last year or two. That's cool and I'll rise to the challenge but it may take a couple of weeks to figure out how best to proceed. Hopefully you'll be seeing the changes soon.
